This section is for personal purchases by faculty and staff. For
information on discounts on university purchases, see the Departments & Schools section.
These
computer specifications were created at the request of new Rice
parents. Although they apply to student computers, the specifications
can be used as minimal requirements for personally-purchased employee computers as well. If you plan to utilize the same applications on your personally-purchased computer as you use on your Rice office or lab computer, contact
your IT support staff to determine if these minimal requirements will
meet the unique needs of your department.
IT Procurement Office
The IT Office of Procurement works with vendors to
negotiate educational site-licensing and discount agreements for the
purchase of technology items for the university. Many of these vendors also offer discounts on personal purchases made by current faculty, staff, and students.
